How To Choose Colors For Your Newborn Photography Session

As someone who has years of newborn photography experience, I know just how to style sessions so they have a balance of timeless beauty and authentic elements natural to you and your family. What I mean is, I know how to get the perfect blend of lifestyle images that will remain beautiful over the years but still hold special qualities unique to you and your family.

Styling your photography session can seem stressful, but I want to guide you through the process to make the experience as seamless as possible. Whether it’s in the studio or in your home, you need to keep in mind the outfits that you and your little one(s) are going to be wearing.

I’ve talked before about how important it is to blend colors and patterns so add variety and interest to everyone’s outfits. The goal is for everyone to look cohesive but not overly matchy matchy. Since newborn photography is something you want to cherish for generations, the last thing you want is to look back on your photos and cringe. I know how important this is, mama and I want you to feel calm and confident with the colors you choose!

Some of the most beautiful color palettes and schemes to stick to:

  1. Soft neutrals
  2. Creamy whites and beiges
  3. Cool tones with pops of warmth
  4. Neutrals with pops of color
  5. Pastels

Another thing to keep in mind after you’ve chosen colors is what patterns you want to go with, if any. Things like dainty florals and simplistic designs are going to bring you extra style without making anything too busy. I find that no matter what colors you choose, it’s best to make things as minimal as possible to ensure a stunning, timeless quality.
