When it comes to professional family photography, a common question is how often I should get family portraits? Well, it depends. Family photos are something to be cherished; heirloom artwork to be enjoyed for generations. Getting photos regularly while your children are still young is a beautiful thing, because it gives you so much to look back on.
When Should You Take Family Portraits?
As a photographer, I recommend taking photos regularly while your little ones are in their first five years of life. The big milestone moments? Maternity, newborn, six months, and one year. As a rule of thumb, I would get milestone photos for your little ones throughout their entire first year of life. While they grow up, and depending on how many little ones you welcome into your family, getting semi-annual lifestyle photos would be incredible.
As the years go by and your children blossom into the amazing people you guided them to be, you can flip through the pages of albums upon albums of stunning memories. Lifestyle photography is the best for more natural, genuine photos that truly capture the essence of your family. You can walk through the years together, laughing and reminiscing about the rambunctious babies and toddlers they once were.
What Should You Do With Your Family Portraits?
I’ve talked about this at length, but the best way to cherish your family memories for generations? Preserve them in framed photo collections or heirloom albums.
