As an expert maternity photographer for almost 10 years, I am constantly on the lookout for unique maternity session locations near Chicago. I always encourage families to choose a location that’s sentimental to them. When the location is meaningful to you, it will enhance your maternity session and make it that much more special when you look back on your photos.
Here is a list of, what I think, are some of the best maternity session locations in Chicago, Illinois that I have gathered over the years. Not only are these locations a favorite of mine to photograph families at, but they are also kid friendly for your growing family. Perfect for including older siblings in your maternity session!
You’ll notice quite a few locations do require a fee, but are well worth the small price!
1. Adler Planetarium –
2. Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool – Permit Required –
3. Art Institute of Chicago Gardens & Walkway –
This english garden style is one of my absolute favorites. It’s a location that can give you many different backdrops! For instance, the outdoor greenery and surrounding architecture has such a classic background.
4. Chicago Riverwalk –
5. Garfield Park Conservatory – Permit Required –
6. Grant Park – Permit Required –
7. Horner Park –
This spot is wonderful for a fall or spring session
8. Humboldt Park –
Located next to the Garfield Conservatory makes this a great second location.
9. Lurie Gardens – Permit Required –
10. Lincoln Park Conservatory – Permit Required –
The conservatory is a common spot during the winter. However, it’s also great to take advantage of the outdoor gardens located just outside during the warmer months.
11. Northerly Island near Lake Shore Drive – Permit Required –
A gorgeous view of the boat docks as your background during sunset.
12. North Pond Nature Sanctuary –
13. Olive Park –
This location is what I would call best of both worlds. You have the iconic Chicago skyline; tree lined park with a view of the Navy Pier ferris wheel; and of course there’s a small beach as a last resort for the kids!
14. Prairie Avenue District –
This hidden gem of mine is a wonderful spot for toddlers to run around in a gated small area.
15. South Pond Nature Boardwalk – Permit Required –
A very popular nature boardwalk that houses the famous Honeycomb art installation. Therefore, I recommend having your photo session on a weekday. This we’re not fighting against the million Saturday weddings and Sunday family sessions that normally take place here.
16. Montrose Beach & Bird Sanctuary –
A more secluded beach, since it’s a bit further away from the skyline. Wonderful greenery and walkway options.
17. North Avenue Beach
18. Oak Street Beach
19. Ohio Beach
20. Cantigny Park – Permit Required – Located in Wheaton, IL
21. Morton Arboretum – Permit Required – Located in Lisle, IL
23. St. James Farm – Permit Required – Located in Warrenville, IL
24. Wilder Park Conservatory – Elmhurst, IL
25. Your own home.
